Foxy fun at ‘Fox on the Downs’ pub

From 13.00 on 24th June we’ll be having a fox-related fun and games (and a roast) at this lesser-frequented but still rather nice pub at the top of Elm Grove. Come join!

 Spotting foxes in your garden

Night time is the best time to spot a fox out on your street or in your garden… keep silent and still, read up on their behaviours and enjoy a local safari on your doorstep!

 Dance the Foxtrot

Get to know the steps, find a ballroom (or living room) and get moving to this smooth, flowing dance invented in 1914…

 Read a foxy book

Dr Seuss’s Fox in Socks, Roald Dahl’s Fantastic Mr Fox and Kate Atkinson’s Life after Life are just three choices for some great fox-related reading this month…

Notice foxgloves in gardens

Although the foxglove flower is poisonous, it is one of the most attractive and distinctive wild flowers you can spot in many gardens from late Spring.  Notice how the flowers grow vertically up the stem as the season continues.

 Play a fox-related game

There are many different types of games available that star or feature foxes, from ‘Fox and Geese’ solitaire style elimination game, ‘Fox in the Forest’ card game to ‘Hounded‘ based on Chess with a twist with tiles for the fox to collect before the hunters can grab him.

Visit the Fox River Cities, Foxton Locks, or Fox Mountain

There are plenty of towns, villages and other places with Fox in the title, some very nice. For example, Foxton Locks in Leicestershire…

 Dress as a Fox

Whether creating a pair of trousers from fox fabric like our friend Kate, or going full on costumer for a party, this is the month to dress extra foxy.

Foxes – Taste

Here are the things we are tasting related to ‘Foxes‘. Please share your suggestions below…

Fox’s Glacier Mints

A taste of the Eighties! If you don’t get to visit the real Fox Glacier in New Zealand you can chomp the glacial mints.

Fox Spice

Californian Chef Jeremy Fox created a custom blend of spices for his Michelin starred resturants – it’s nice, though we slightly overdid the cloves in our batch… Recipe here.

Fox’s Classic Bar

Of all the range of Fox’s biscuits and sweet treats, it’s the Classic bars that stand out the most with the right amount of cream and crunch and a good hint of nostalgia.

Fox Hunter Pie

Apparantly this pie is the same as a Kentucky Derby pie, but whichever, the combination of pecans and chocolate make this an appealing desert to try.

Fox River Cocktail

Mostly bourbon, with a little bit of creme de cacao and angostura bitters and finished with orange zest, this is a strong, crafty cocktail.

Gnarly Fox

An amber Marstons beer, specially brewed for Lidl supermarkets – so very affordable and nice rich taste too…

Silver Fox cocktail

It may not look very silver, but this foxy cocktail is delicious especially after dinner, or even at Christmas.  Make sure you serve in a neat little glass

Fox Steak

This may seem controversial, but eating parts of a fox is considered on a parr with any other wild animal or road kill.  Even some celebrities are giving it a try…
